Enhanced Security with 2-Step Verification
The online security of our Members’ information is a priority at MCU. To add an extra layer of protection, beginning on May 13th, you will be asked to enroll in 2-Step Verification (also called Two-Factor Authentication or 2FA) when logging into online banking.
What is 2-Step Verification?
The process of adding a second verification of identity, in addition to your online banking password, by way of a code sent to your email or mobile phone (SMS/text). You will need this code in order to access online banking.
How does it work?
You will be asked to register for 2FA from the online banking login screen. You will provide an email address or your mobile phone number in order to receive your One-Time Passcode (OTP) to verify your identity. Once registered, you will get a new OTP every time you login.
Why this change?
- Cyber attacks are on the rise and 2FA helps to strengthen your login making it more difficult for fraudsters to access your account. It also helps prevent you from becoming a victim of phishing scams, identify theft, and other types of fraud.
- Registering for 2FA is simple. Receiving your OTP through your personal device is also quick and provides more control for a secure login.
- 2FA provides the additional benefit of confidence for you knowing your accounts and information have an extra layer of protection.
IMPORTANT: We will never ask you for your OTP. If you are contacted and asked for your OTP, the request is fraudulent. Hang up and contact our Solution Centre to confirm your accounts have not been compromised.
